The Maintenance Planner is responsible for determining the maintenance schedule and ensuring the effective execution of all maintenance work activities.

The Maintenance Planner leads the development of a safe, efficient and effective workplan by proper planning and scheduling of work for various skill sets in the Maintenance Department.

The Maintenance Planner must effectively communicate at all levels within and outside the organization and particularly with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, warehouse/logistics and other external resources. 

  • Plan and schedule Preventative Maintenance activities and other non-routine maintenance work orders.
  • Estimate and define requirements for total labour, materials, special tools, equipment, and skill sets for all work including complex projects such as plant shutdown, plant improvement projects, etc.
  • Works with warehouse staff to manage spare part and critical spare availability.
  • Develop quality control and KPI standards for the maintenance team.
  • Coordinate to rebuild spare equipment through external suppliers.
  • Obtain and organize all information required for work being performed. (i.e. drawings, vendor manuals, supplemental materials, special procedures, diagrams, etc.).
  • Coordinate for approval on any work order requiring a Management of Change (MOC).
  • Supports Mechanical Integrity Engineer in developing master work orders for jobs that are part of the preventive maintenance program in accordance with established frequency from the master schedule.
  • Develop and maintain a daily schedule seven days in advance for the Maintenance Team.
  • Plan all turn around work in advance to ensure materials and resource availability.
  • Coordinate with Operations to ensure timely issuance of safe work permits and other permits for the maintenance team.
  • Ensure proper documentation to close out work orders.
  • Communicate with Reliability Manager and Maintenance Supervisor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for monitoring the maintenance operating systems.
  • Promote and/or develop proper methods for Work Order initiation, queries and tracking
  • Any other duties as assigned.
